Possibly a New Era of Me

Posted on ‱ Written by Samara M

This is going to be a bit different than what I would usually post, but here’s something for someone to read if they’re interested about me and why I make certain decisions on myself.

Introduction

Let’s get it out of the way immediately, I’m moving on from my other aliases and my alias is now “claration”!

How & Why

Before trying to come up with a new alias to use I put up a few rules to follow, that being:

  • Alias must be 8-9 characters long.
  • Alias must be easy to pronounce.
  • Alias must be easy to type out.
  • Alias must have a bit of personal value, including some elements of myself.

Many people know me as Samara, Sammy, Samsam, or any derivative of those. The name has “ara” in it, but I didn’t want the name to have my actual name in it, so I used “cl” at the beginning. It’s the easiest to pronounce, in my opinion. So I came up with “claration”.

Previously some of the aliases I used came from songs:

  • “khcrysalis” came from a song from Lexycat - Chrysalis
  • “ssalggnikool” came from a song from Lunetia - Ssalggnikool

“khcrysalis” was always a temporary name, it was a way to move on from “ssalggnikool”. It was made on a whim without much thought at all, hence why there’s also random characters at the front so I’m actually able to claim the alias. The same could be also said for “ssalggnikool”, I wanted to move on from another name but for different reasons.

People would often say that my aliases are just hard to type or even pronounce because.. I mean.. how would you even pronounce “ssalggnikool” (LookingGlass backwards)? Or even “khcrysalis”? Without knowing the words from where they came from? Maybe “sal-g-ni-kool” and “K-H-chrysalis”
Honestly, I have no idea why I chose such difficult names to type in the first place.

Also this might be ironic because I also changed a projects of mine name as well to something else. Thankfully, GitHub hot-links old links to new ones so it saves me a bunch of hassle.

I do hope I end up staying with this alias and not end up changing it once again, but don’t take my word on this. I’m the most indecisive person you will probably ever meet. Call me out if you notice though :)

Implications

Changing is annoying, sometimes hardcoded links are no longer valid, but that’s okay! Changing everything is not at all something realistic to do, but I personally commited to a few things that were most important (credit links on github, etc).

For this site’s domain, someone other than me is actually paying for it (I think I know who).. I’ll probably need to bother them on cancelling it later on, they’re really sweet anyway so not a problem.

Also, it may suck for search results, but maybe someday I’ll get popular enough (again) that I’ll reach the top page of Google.

Conclusion

Despite all this nonsense about me changing my alias, when you refer to me please call me by my name and not by alias, I prefer it that way.

Also! I haven’t put much thought into grammar or structuring into this post! So it feels more genuine.
